The care of children’s teeth
A baby’s smile is a wonderful thing. When the first little teeth begin to appear, then we like it a lot more. But do you know how to take care of your baby’s teeth? In Dental Clinic Pons Soria, your dentist in Valencia, we solve some questions.
When do the first teeth appear?
The first four anterior teeth, – two above and two below, – are the first to make their appearance in your baby’s mouth – From there and until two and a half years all the teeth and milk teeth erupt until a total of 20; Top 10 and bottom 10.
At age three, most children have a complete set of teeth.
When leaving, the first teeth can cause redness and irritation of gums, excessive salivation, red cheeks or sleep disturbances. Massaging the gums with a wet and fresh cloth, with a clean finger or a cold teaspoon can relieve you, as well as the chilled teethers that exist in the market.
Why are baby teeth important?
They are very important for the health and development of the child. They serve you to chew, smile and talk. They keep the space in the jaws for when they later leave the permanent teeth that are growing under the gums. They act as a guide for the eruption of permanent teeth. And they are important for the child’s smile and self-esteem.
When should I start taking my child to the dentist?
Between the appearance of his first tooth and his first birthday. It aims to carry out a check of the oral well-being of the baby. Detect and prevent early caries, abnormalities or possible pathologies. In addition, the dentist can teach you to clean your baby’s teeth properly and handle habits such as sucking your finger. It is important for the child to become familiar with your dentist in Valencia and not wait for illness, which will make the visit more traumatic.
How do I take care of my baby’s teeth?
In the first days of life, start cleaning your gums with a damp and clean gauze or a wipe. As soon as your first teeth come out, decay can develop. The four anterior teeth leave at 6 months of age, although some children do not get their first tooth until 12 or 14 months.
With less than 3 years: Brush your teeth gently from its appearance, with a children’s brush and a quantity of fluoridated toothpaste not larger than a grain of rice spread over all the bristles. Twice a day (morning and night), always as directed by your dentist. It is important that the paste contains a minimum of 1000ppm of fluoride from the beginning, since the inefficiency of lower concentrations has been demonstrated. Monitor the brushing your child does daily, the amount of paste they apply to the brush and avoid swallowing the paste.
Between 3 and 6 years: Increase the amount of fluoridated pasta to the size of a pea. It is a learning stage. From the age of 6, brushing progresses to an adult level progressively until consolidated.
And decay?
Early childhood caries can destroy teeth, especially the front ones. In addition to bottle caries, they occur mainly due to contact with milk, juices or sugary drinks before bedtime.
These cavities should be treated at your dentist in Valencia, as they are an indication that something is not working properly and we must remember that good health of baby teeth leads to good health of the definitive.
